HEADACHE is one of the most common health complaints globally but most are easily treated. More than 10 million people in the UK alone get headaches.
Most headaches aren’t serious and can be treated with pharmacy remedies and lifestyle changes, such as getting more rest and drinking enough fluids.
Headaches have many different causes but can generally be split into two types:
- primary headaches – those not due to another underlying health problem
- secondary headaches – which have a separate cause, such as illness
Migraine headaches, tension headaches, and cluster headaches are considered primary headaches. Secondary headaches are caused by disease. Headache symptoms vary with the headache type. Over-the-counter pain relievers provide short-term relief for most headaches.
These are described in more details here, with links to more information on specific causes of headaches.
